GarageBand Tutorial #1:
ring tone creation:
So that now we are starting Audio, we are going to start small by creating a Ringtone that you can add to your phone. Your ring tone will be a minimum of 15 seconds and a maximum of 30 seconds. You will use loops and beats built into Garagband with a minimum of 5 tracks. Create it in such a way that it can repeat easily and still work as a ring tone. You many NOT just use a jingle that is built into the program.
You will start Garageband and choose a Ringtone project file. The loops window should automatically open on the right side of the program when the file launches. Start looking through the loops available to you in order to pick loops that will work together. once you have finalized your ringtone, go to Share and select Ringtone to iTunes. Save your file as Last name + First Initial + Ringtone. Submit to Mr. Goble via Dropbox for a Classwork grade.

Billy Bob Commercial Project:
Sometimes it is easy to forget that audio production is not only recording and editing music tracks, but also includes editing spoken word. This type of skill is used to create audio books, recording voice-overs for commercials and movies, and especially to produce radio broadcasts and advertisements.
You have been hired as an audio editor for Commercials Incorporated. They want you to create a commercial for a car lot. They have provided you with the voice over (VO) and final script. In this project, you will edit a raw voice recording to match a script. Your client is Billy Bob's Auto Warehouse. You have his original recording (as you will see, Mr. Billy Bob is not so good at recording a commercial) and the written script of what the radio commercial should say exactly. As you learn how to cut and splice clips in Audition, arrange Billy Bob's recording in the correct order. When you have matched the script, add sound effects and background music to make the production appealing and persuasive. Remember to match the script exactly! Remember the background music should fit your target audience and not overpower the voice-over. As you work, save your project as an Audition project file (.SESX) and name it last name +first initial + billybob. When you are finished, export it using Export>Multitrack Mixdown>Entire Session and choose the .MP3 encoder and name the output file the same name(ex: pettywbillybob.MP3). Submit the .MP3 file using the dropbox link on the front page! Don't forget to review the rubric to make sure you are meeting all of the project requirements! |

Monster Truck Project:
Now that you have learned a few basic tools and features of GarageBand, you will apply that knowledge in this project. As you may notice when listening to the radio, the advertisements incorporate special track effects like echo and reverb to help grab attention and persuade the audience.
You have been hired as an audio editor for Monster Trucks Incorporated. They want you to edit a commercial for the upcoming tour. In this project, you will learn how to add special effects to the tracks of audio in Audition, as well as further incorporate sound effects and background music to help your radio advertisements sound appealing and persuasive. Your client is Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC. They are hosting a monster truck rally and Sesame Street wrestling match (fun for adults and children!). You have been given a raw recording of the commercial, a voice-over from Elmo talking trash to Big Bird, and a sound effect or two. You have also been provided with the final script of the commercial. Your job is to cut and splice the original audio recording to match the script, then add in some excerpts from Elmo's voice-over. This time, every individual clip that you splice needs to be on its own track in Audition. You will use the software to add special effects like track panning, echo, reverb, and others. Finally, you will incorporate sound effects and background music to help persuade your audience to attend the monster truck rally and Sesame Street wrestling tournament. As you work, save your project as an Audition project file (.SESX) and name it last name +first initial + monster. When you are finished, export it using Export>Multitrack Mixdown>Entire Session and choose the .MP3 encoder and name the output file the same name (ex: pettywmonster.MP3). Submit the .MP3 file using the form below. Don't forget to review the rubric to make sure you are meeting all of the project requirements! |

Song Remix Assignment:
GOAL: Find at least 20+ songs and chop them up to make a BRAND NEW song of at least 2 minutes. Total duration of the song should fall within the range of most major songs (2 ~ 6 Minutes)

CUTS: You should have A LOT of cuts. ~60+ cuts at least!
SONGS: All songs/content must be PG. Would you play this for your grandmother? If there's a word in there that needs be taken out then either splice it out or bleep it out. You have the power! Make sure that all of the songs you choose and use are of high sound quality?
PEER REVIEW: Have 2 people listen to your finished song and have them complete the review sheet that will then be submitted to Mr. Goble/Mr. Curley.
SUBMIT: Submit your finished project titled as LastNameFirstNameSongMashup and make sure that it is properly exported out of Adobe Audition as an MP3. Submit the final mp3 file to the DropItToMe link on the front page of this Weebly.

Group album project:
You have decided to start your own music group with a couple of your classmates (4-5 students per group. For this project, you will join forces with your band mates and create an album filled with all original audio productions that you create in GarageBand. Your music group will also design an album cover, and back cover with track list and artist, using Photoshop.
Each group member must create TWO original audio productions in GarageBand. You will use the loops provided by the software. Each individual song must end up being at least 1:30 long. Collaborate with your group members to make sure all of your group's songs fall under the same genre of music! Each group member must also take part in designing the album cover and track list in Photoshop.
After your group has completed all of the original songs and designed the album cover, use GarageBand to export each song in MP3 format and give it a descriptive name. Place all of the songs and designs into 1 folder to turn into Goble. Check the rubric provided below to make sure your group's album is meeting all of the project requirements! Submit your finalized group album to Goble for grading. Finally, complete the Peer Evaluation Survey located to the right. |

PSA (Public Service Announcement)
With a partner, you will be creating a Public Service Announcement package to help the community. First you need to read How to Write a PSA. You will need to start with a topic and some research to plan your commercial. You will be creating 1 30 second PSA and 1 10 second PSA. Each must be written and recorded into Garageband. Additional sounds and editing must be added throughout all 40 seconds, but be careful to not overwhelm your message. LESS is MORE.
